“DONT QUIT” echoed in Dr. Buford’s mind. We are standing before Sunrise Baptist Church in Houston. It began with a vision. Dr. Edward M Buford Sr. was the Assistant Pastor at Greater New Grove. He was beside Pastor Elvin Stewart. He heard the call to begin a church. Edward and Bobbi Buford’s family answered the call. Archie Roberts and his parents also joined. They started a youth-targeted church. It was in the East Aldine Area.
Only Dr. Buford and his family were in the church. Assistant Pastor Archie R. Roberts III was there. Deacon Frank and Euince Roberts were also present. Service began with a microphone and a speaker.
VBS carnivals and sidewalk Sunday school were highlights. Passing out fliers was also key. They ministered to Haversack Hill Apartments. This was one of the most notorious crime-operating areas. It was in Northeast Houston. Multiple events came against God’s Vision. Dr. Buford remembered the words of their first Church Mother. She said, “DONT QUIT”. God kept Sunrise Baptist Church growing. They remained faithful to His vision. They never quit.
Since then, God has blessed SonRise Church. It always has a cause no matter the season. It moved to the build they have now. It is one of the largest family shelters in Harris County. Sunrise Baptist Church serves the community. It is a Relief Hub for East Aldine District. It lends a hand during floods and tornadoes. It helps during hurricanes and city-wide outages. It also provides assistance during pandemics. God allows SonRise to represent The Kingdom. It exposes His Love in many places.
SonRise Church functions on the guidance of The Holy Spirit. It answers the needs God assigns. It is equipped to deal with those needs. Being in tune with His Will has kept SonRise effective. It has been effective for over 25 years.
Many lives have changed. Hearts are transforming through Jesus Christ. The next soul is where they are headed. They use the resources He provides. They spread The Message that changes lives. JESUS SAVES. You can be a part of the Sunrise Baptist Church story.
