Behold the Sun Yat-sen Portrait Statue. This bronze giant stands proudly before the magnificent Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. It’s more than just a statue. It’s a powerful symbol of a pivotal moment in Chinese history.

The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall itself is a remarkable structure. It’s octagonal in shape. The design blends traditional Chinese palace architecture with modern steel and reinforced concrete. This impressive building covers 62000 square meters. The main building alone is a vast 6600 square meters. It was a gift from the people of Guangzhou and overseas Chinese. Construction began in 1929 and finished in October 1931. The architect was the renowned Lu Yanzhi.

The statue itself is a compelling sight. It’s 5.5 meters tall and weighs a hefty 3.9 tons. It depicts Sun Yat-sen as he appeared when giving speeches. The base of the statue bears an inscription. It’s Sun Yat-sen’s own words outlining his plan for national reconstruction.

Above the entrance to the memorial hall you will see a golden plaque. It bears four characters written by Sun Yat-sen himself. These characters mean “Tian Xia Wei Gong”. This phrase translates to “the whole world as one community”. It perfectly encapsulates Sun Yat-sen’s philosophy. A philosophy aimed at uniting China and the world.

The hall has been repaired and renovated multiple times. In 1998 a complete refurbishment took place. Today the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall serves as an important venue. Large meetings and theatrical performances are regularly held within its impressive walls.

You can easily reach this location by using public transport. The Guangzhou Metro Line 2 stops at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall station. A short walk from there and you are here. Right in front of this breathtaking statue. A statue commemorating the life and legacy of Sun Yat-sen. A legacy that continues to inspire generations. So take a moment to absorb the grandeur. Let the weight of history settle over you. Reflect on the man who changed a nation. This is where history comes alive.
