Here, the air whispers tales of the Battle of Uhud, a clash between the early Muslims and the Meccans in 625 CE. Summit Mount Uhud, rising over 3,533 feet, witnessed the Prophet Muhammad leading his followers against a much larger force. He positioned archers on the mountain’s slopes, a strategic move that initially gave the Muslims an advantage. The archers were ordered to hold their position, no matter what. As the battle raged, the Muslims pushed back the Meccan lines. Victory seemed within reach. But a fateful decision changed the course of the battle. Some archers, believing victory was assured, abandoned their posts against the Prophet’s explicit command. They sought spoils of war, leaving the Muslim flank exposed. The Meccan cavalry, led by Khalid ibn al-Walid, seized this opportunity and launched a surprise attack. The battle turned, and many Muslims, including the Prophet’s uncle Hamza ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib, were martyred. The Prophet himself was injured. Summit Mount Uhud became a place of both triumph and tragedy. The Prophet Muhammad, though injured, rallied his followers and sought refuge in a cave on the mountain. Later, he ascended Mount Uhud with companions, and the mountain trembled beneath them. “O Uhud! Be firm,” the Prophet declared, “for upon you there is none but a Prophet, a supporter of truth, and two martyrs.” The trembling ceased.
