Picture this a vibrant student village nestled in Berlin’s southeastern Adlershof district. This is Studentendorf Adlershof a modern marvel of architectural design. Opened in October 2014 it stands as a testament to innovative urban planning.
Studentendorf Adlershof isn’t just a place to live. It’s a community. Ten buildings spread across 11000 square meters offer housing for 386 students. Each of the eight three-story buildings boasts communal areas. Residents share kitchens dining rooms and lounge areas. The rooms themselves are cozy with en-suite bathrooms. The two four-story buildings along Abram-Joffe-Street offer a mix of single and double apartments.
But what truly sets Studentendorf Adlershof apart are the “thinker bays” or Denker-Erker. These unique architectural features jut from each residential unit. They are places of quiet contemplation and offer fantastic views. The varied orientation of these bays along with different window orientations create a dynamic facade. The use of grey wood paneling and colored sunshades adds visual interest. Each building feels unique.
The design of Studentendorf Adlershof was inspired by the historic Studentendorf Schlachtensee in southwestern Berlin. This older complex served as a model for the Adlershof village’s community-focused design. Like its predecessor Studentendorf Adlershof centers around a village square. Here you’ll find a clubhouse rental office kindergarten gym and laundromat. Two additional courtyards provide extra green space. Large windows in the communal areas allow for interaction between residents of different buildings.
The Studentendorf Adlershof is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a vision. It’s a response to the need for student housing in the Adlershof area. It’s a place for students to not only live but to connect. It’s a vibrant community designed to foster interaction learning and personal growth. The architects die Zusammenarbeiter achieved something remarkable. Their vision began in October 2010 when their design won the “Wohnen am Campus” urban development project tender. The Swiss CoOpera Sammelstiftung PUK provided the financial backing. The cooperative Studentendorf Schlachtensee eG manages the complex.
Studentendorf Adlershof is not only a place to study but a place to live a full life. A place to grow. A place to belong. A community for students nestled right here in the heart of Berlin’s innovative Adlershof. It’s a place that you can only find in Adlershof.
