What if I told you this building is more than just bricks and mortar? It is the Student Activity Centre of the University of Macau. Opened in 2014, the Student Activity Centre is a hub of student life. It is a multi-functional building designed for student activities.
The Student Activity Centre houses many important resources. Here you will find the office and conference room of the University of Macau Students’ Union. Culture and Arts University teams also have their practice rooms and offices here.
But that is not all. The Student Activity Centre also provides various venues for student activities. These include a 243-seat theatre and an outdoor plaza. You will also find a recreation room called Student Corner. There are meeting rooms, a multi-function hall and multi-function rooms. Students use these spaces for various events. You might see a musical performance, a dance show or even a movie screening.
Did you know the Student Activity Centre is an environmentally friendly building? In 2018, it received China’s Three-Star Green Building Operation Label. This is the highest standard green building label awarded by the China Green Building Council. The University of Macau is the first building in Macao to receive this rating. The building also received China’s Three-Star Green Building Design Label in 2015.
The University of Macau follows five principles in its campus design. These include using Lingnan architectural style and a garden-style layout. The campus mixes Lingnan style with South European style. It implements a green transport infrastructure. The university also focuses on rainwater collection and reuse. Finally, it increases greening areas on the campus.
All venues inside are generally open from 09:00 to 23:00. The outdoor plaza closes a bit earlier at 22:00. The Student Activity Centre offers offices for Student Affairs Office. It also provides offices for the Students’ Union and its sub-organizations. There are four music practice rooms for Cultural and Arts U-Teams. The Student Activity Centre also provides locations for counters and banners. Easy-stand hoisting locations are available. The Music Room is operated by the Students’ Union. You can approach their office at E31-1014 for inquiries. They are open during office hours.
