A shimmer catches your eye. It is the sunlight dancing on the surface of the Stocksee. Here in Memmelsdorf, this 12-hectare lake offers a refreshing escape.

Stocksee und Umgebung is more than just a body of water. It is a place for recreation. It invites you to immerse yourself in nature’s embrace. Imagine yourself strolling along the shore. Picture yourself embarking on a cycling adventure. Feel the tranquility wash over you.

The Stocksee is a destination for all seasons. In the summer, the lake beckons with the promise of cool respite. In the winter, the landscape transforms into a serene spectacle.

Did you know that Stocksee is near other beautiful lakes? The Silbersee in Kemmern is only 5.1 km away. The Kühsee and Kl. Kühsee in Bamberg are also nearby. Each offers its own unique charm.

Speaking of Bamberg, have you heard of Schloss Seehof? It is located just a short distance from here. Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg, Prince-bishop of Bamberg, commissioned this palace. He wanted a summer residence and hunting lodge. Construction took place from 1684 to 1695.

The palace boasts early Baroque architecture. Antonio Petrini designed it. Later redesigns introduced the White Hall in the west wing. Johann Philipp Anton von Franckenstein oversaw these changes in the 1750s.

Schloss Seehof stands on a square plan. It is similar to Schloss Johannisburg at Aschaffenburg. Four corner pavilions rise with octagonal towers. Slate roof hoods with pierced ball ornaments adorn them. Large windows punctuate the facades. Triangular gables and arches add to the visual appeal. An arcade surrounds the inner court on all four sides.

Inside, the palace showcases interiors from the 1730s. Balthasar Neumann and J.J.M. Küchel contributed to the designs. The palace chapel features a Rococo altar made of stucco. Antonio Bossi created it based on a drawing by Küchel. Johann Rottenhammer painted the altar painting, Die Heiligen drei Könige.

The Rokokosaal, located in the center of the upper floor, is particularly stunning. Its walls are adorned with gypsum marble and reliefs painted by F.A. Decourt. Giuseppe Appiani painted the ceiling. It depicts the goddess of dawn.

The park surrounding the palace has transformed over time. Originally, it featured ponds, cascades, and fountains. However, they were drained in the early 19th century. Many sculptures were destroyed or sold. Today, some have been returned and are displayed in the western Orangerie.

The Bavarian Administration of State-Owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes manages the palace today. It is partially open to the public. The Bayerisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege occupies most of the building. Nine period rooms are open for visitors. The chapel is a venue for weddings. Some palace rooms are available for private events.
