Welcome to the Stellmacherei Langenrehm. This museum showcases the life and work of a wheelwright family. The Stellmacherei is located in Langenrehm. Langenrehm is a district of Rosengarten in the Harburg district.
Imagine the scene around 1930. The Peters family is hard at work. They are crafting wheels and other wooden implements. This workshop is unique. It is completely preserved in its original state from around 1930. All the machines are fully functional. They have not been modernized for 90 years.
Heinz Peters ran this Stellmacherei. He produced mainly wheels for wheelbarrows until 1970. The municipality of Rosengarten bought the Stellmacherei Langenrehm. Later, the Förderverein des Freilichtmuseums am Kiekeberg took over the museum operations.
Step inside the historic workshop. You will see demonstrations of the traditional craft. Watch as skilled volunteers operate the century-old machines. The machines still work. The volunteers are happy to explain their craft.
Explore the faithfully furnished farmhouse. It shows the family life of the wheelwrights. See how the Peters family lived and worked together. The museum covers around 2000 square meters. It illustrates how a family built a successful business. This happened from humble beginnings in the early 20th century.
The Stellmacherei is not just a museum. It is also a place for activities. The Museumsakademie offers courses in traditional carving techniques. Children can also try their hand at carving during the holidays. They can even build “Flotte Flitzer” for birthday parties.
Feeling hungry? Café Peters is located in the farmhouse hall. It offers refreshments for visitors. Enjoy fresh Buchweizenrollen. You can enjoy coffee and cake in Bioland quality. Hearty bread is also available.
The Stellmacherei Langenrehm is open every Sunday from May to October. The opening hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Special events take place during the season.
The Förderverein des Freilichtmuseums am Kiekeberg and many others supported the restoration. The restoration of the historic buildings was funded by ELER EU funds. These funds support village development in Emsen-Langenrehm. The Sparkasse Harburg-Buxtehude also supported the restoration.
