Then-chairman Johann Löhn shelved the idea. Erich Thies a Secretary of State strongly supported the project. After negotiations with the Berlin State Senate approval was granted.
Steinbeis University Berlin opened in autumn 1998. It began offering the Master of Business and Engineering MBE. The following year saw the introduction of the MedienMBA. This was the first MBA for senior media managers in Germany. In 2000 MBAs were added for Chinese executives and German fast-track employees. The first bachelor’s degree program launched in 2001.
