Have you heard of the “Miracle Church”? Right here in Dansoman, Last Stop, stands Star of the Sea Catholic Church. It’s not just a building. It’s a testament to faith, growth, and the power of community. Star of the Sea Catholic Church began not in a grand cathedral, but in a home. In 1987, a small group of just twenty people, eight adults and twelve children, gathered in the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Djameh. They held their first mass, led by Rev. Fr. Richard Van Der Wuff. This humble beginning marked the birth of Star of the Sea. Word spread quickly. Soon, more people came to worship, spilling out from the Djamehs’ home. The congregation quickly outgrew the space. They acquired land, and in a symbolic procession, carried their benches from the Djameh’s home to their new worship space, a simple classroom block. This move to the new premises took place in August 1991. Even then, with just 63 worshippers, their faith resonated, earning them the nickname “Miracle Church”. Star of the Sea Catholic Church continued to grow. The church building itself was constructed during the tenure of Rev. Fr. John Straathof. In 2011, a momentous occasion arrived. The church building was dedicated, and Star of the Sea officially became a parish. This dedication wasn’t just a ceremony. It was a reflection of the dedication of its members. Their numbers had swelled from the initial twenty to a thriving community of 2000. From a small gathering in a home to a vibrant parish, Star of the Sea Catholic Church embodies the spirit of growth and community. It’s a reminder that even the smallest seed of faith can blossom into something miraculous.
