In 1957, the Stadtteilschule Richard-Linde-Weg first opened its doors as a primary and secondary school. It was named after the street it resides on, which in turn honors local historian Richard Linde. Imagine the excitement of those first students as they entered the brand-new building, a complex of five interconnected houses. This Stadtteilschule Richard-Linde-Weg, right here at Richard-Linde-Weg 49, has seen a lot of changes since then. It evolved from its humble beginnings to become a comprehensive school, adding a Realschule branch in the 1974/75 school year. The Hamburg school reform of 2010/11 transformed the Stadtteilschule Richard-Linde-Weg yet again. It became a Stadtteilschule, offering both Realschule diplomas and the Abitur, the German equivalent of a high school diploma that qualifies students for university. Today, the Stadtteilschule Richard-Linde-Weg has approximately 820 students and 69 teachers. It’s a bustling hub of learning, with a focus on preparing students for the future. This includes vocational orientation, media literacy, and a strong foundation in the natural sciences. The Stadtteilschule Richard-Linde-Weg also emphasizes inclusion and individual support, using Montessori teaching methods in the lower grades. Classrooms are equipped with Montessori materials, and multi-professional teams of teachers work together to create an inclusive learning environment. The school is also known for its innovative programs. One example is Netthelp, a student-run IT company founded in 1999. Netthelp students, or “Netthelpers,” provide IT services like web design, troubleshooting, and computer courses. This program has even won awards, including first place at Jugend forscht, a prestigious German youth science competition. Another highlight of the Stadtteilschule Richard-Linde-Weg is its media program. Supported by the Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein Media Authority and the Tide TV channel, the school encourages media literacy through partnerships and projects. These initiatives span from the 5th grade to the upper levels. The Stadtteilschule Richard-Linde-Weg continues to grow and evolve, adapting to the ever-changing educational landscape. It remains a vital part of the Lohbrügge community, providing a solid educational foundation for generations of students.
