Once, this land was a clay pit for the Hannoversche Dampfziegelei. The company was founded in 1885. It operated until 1966. The clay pit became the Schwarze See. The Schwarze See became the heart of Stadtpark Garbsen.
The park was built in two phases. The first was from 1984 to 1988. The second was from 1993 to 1995. The focus was on the area around the Schwarze See.
The main entrance of Stadtpark Garbsen is at Kastendamm. Here, you will find fountains and flowerbeds. A path leads through an old orchard and oak grove. In spring, yellow wild tulips and bluebells bloom here.
An old ring oven still stands. It is a remnant of the former brick factory. Bats now live in its vault. The vault is now an important habitat. It helps protect species and their habitats.
Take a walk along the Baumlehrpfad. Here, you can learn about 54 types of trees. These trees are native and naturalized. They are labelled with signs. Nature knowledge is back in demand.

After heavy rains, see the waterfall flowing into the Mittellandkanal. The waterfall is artificial.
