They house the Stadtarchiv Neuss one of Germany’s oldest municipal archives. Its story begins far earlier than its current location. In 1242 the archivum publicum Nusie was first documented. It resided humbly within the city’s town hall under the watchful eye of the city clerk.

A devastating fire in 1586 devoured priceless documents. This event altered the course of the Stadtarchiv Neuss forever. Imagine the smoke the flames the irreplaceable loss.
