Forty-five thousand stories. That’s how many books fill the shelves of the Stadt-/ Schulbibliothek Badenstedt. Can you imagine?

This isn’t just any library. It’s the Stadt-/ Schulbibliothek Badenstedt a vibrant hub in the heart of Hanover. For twenty-five years it has served the community. It opened its doors in 1991. It was the fourth combined city and school library in Hanover. From the start it included a mobile library service. This was a crucial part of its work. This mobile library brought books to those who couldn’t easily reach the main branch.

For many years the Stadt-/ Schulbibliothek Badenstedt had a wider reach. It oversaw libraries in Ahlem Bemerode Vinnhorst and Wettbergen. This was until budget cuts in 2005. The books from those smaller libraries now enrich its own collection. Since 2000 it has also managed a small lending point in the Vahrenheide cultural centre.

The Stadt-/ Schulbibliothek Badenstedt is more than just books. It’s a community space. It’s a place for learning. It holds many events for all ages. There are events for babies. There are film screenings. There are workshops. There are even special events during the summer holidays for teenagers. The library also works with many other groups in the area. This includes schools kindergartens and community groups. They help support refugee initiatives teaching German to newcomers. Local artists and school groups use the library for exhibitions too.

Today the Stadt-/ Schulbibliothek Badenstedt the mobile library and the Vahrenheide branch work together. They share resources and staff. The library isn’t just about providing access to books. It’s about creating a welcoming space. A space where people can connect with each other and with knowledge. It’s a place where stories come alive not just in the pages of the books but in the conversations and events it hosts. It’s a place of community in the heart of Hanover. A place to explore learn and grow. A truly special place. It has played a vital role for over two decades. The library continues to evolve and meet the needs of its community. It offers 28 opening hours for the public and eight more specifically for school use. The library also boasts an impressive number of visitors and loans.
