“A spark of innovation, wouldn’t you say?” Staatliche Gewerbeschule Energietechnik – G 10, once known as G 10, hums with the energy of generations. It began modestly in 1911, with a few dedicated classrooms for electricians tucked away within Altona’s vocational school. This marked the birth of what would become a cornerstone of technical education in Hamburg. The Staatliche Gewerbeschule Energietechnik – G 10 isn’t just bricks and mortar. It’s a living testament to the power of vision and collaboration. By the 1920s, Altona recognized the need for a dedicated space for vocational training. The “Haus der Jugend,” or “House of Youth,” was conceived. This ambitious project aimed to house not only the Gewerbeschule but also the commercial school, the watchmaking school, and the arts and crafts school. This building, designed by Gustav Oelsner, opened in 1930. It was intended to be a hub for the entire community, a center of intellectual and cultural life. Imagine over 4,700 students bustling through these halls, their futures brimming with potential. The Staatliche Gewerbeschule Energietechnik – G 10 weathered many storms, literally. In 1945, the building suffered extensive damage from wartime bombing. Yet, through the sheer will of teachers and students, the school persevered. They rolled up their sleeves and rebuilt, even conducting training courses for craftsmen during the restoration. The “Haus der Jugend” was a phoenix rising from the ashes. Fast forward to 2011, the Staatliche Gewerbeschule Energietechnik – G 10 celebrated its centennial anniversary. The festivities included a visit from Hamburg’s First Mayor, Olaf Scholz, a testament to the school’s enduring importance. The building underwent another transformation between 2012 and 2017, a comprehensive renovation that restored Oelsner’s original design while modernizing its infrastructure. Today, the Staatliche Gewerbeschule Energietechnik – G 10, now officially known as Berufliche Schule Energietechnik Altona (BS 22), continues to empower future generations. With over 1,650 students and 90 staff members, it remains a vibrant center for technical education. Its close ties with companies throughout the Hamburg metropolitan region ensure that its training remains relevant and cutting-edge, preparing students for successful careers in energy technology and process automation. The Staatliche Gewerbeschule Energietechnik – G 10 stands as a symbol of resilience, innovation, and community spirit.
