A statue of St Valentine. That’s what first caught my eye at St Valentine Catholic Church. He holds a palm frond symbolizing his martyrdom. This isn’t just any church. It’s a place steeped in history. Located in Redford Michigan it’s a vital part of the Detroit community.

St Valentine Catholic Church stands proudly at 25881 Dow Street. It’s a place where the faithful gather for Mass. Sundays see the church bustling with activity. Masses are held at 830am and 12pm. Saturday evening Mass begins at 530pm. Weekday masses are celebrated at 830am on Thursdays and Fridays.

But St Valentine is more than just Sunday services. Thursdays at 6pm offer a chance for confession. The church hosts other events too. This isn’t just a building. It’s a vibrant community hub. Think of the Mass Mob visit in February. Bishop Hanchon was the celebrant. It was a memorable occasion.

Inside you’ll find beautiful stained-glass windows. Each one depicts a sacrament or a Gospel scene. Each window is accompanied by an explanatory text. The church also boasts monochrome Stations of the Cross and a striking Good Shepherd statue in the former baptistry. St Anne and the Child Mary stand watch in a corner of the nave. The details are exquisite. You can almost feel the devotion that went into creating this space.

Nearby stands Our Lady of Loretto. It’s just 1.5 miles north of St Valentine. Both churches are part of a larger faith community. The sense of community is palpable. Father Socorro Fernandes SAC is the pastor. He’s assisted by Father Henry Rebello SAC. Together they guide their flock and serve this vibrant community.

St Valentine Catholic Church is a testament to faith. It’s a place of worship a place of community and a place of quiet reflection. It is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a living breathing testament to the enduring power of faith. A place where the spirit of St Valentine continues to inspire.
