From a modest beginning to a symbol of resilience, that’s the story of St Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church. St Mary’s sits in the heart of Glendale, the center of California’s largest Armenian community. Imagine the scene in 1975. A small church building is purchased, a beacon of hope for a community finding its footing in a new land. St Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church quickly became a spiritual anchor. By 1985, the congregation had outgrown its humble beginnings. The current building, a testament to the community’s growth and dedication, was purchased. Its consecration took place on July 10, 1988. His Holiness Karekin II, who later became Catholicos of All Armenians, presided over the ceremony. This church stands as a symbol of perseverance, echoing the spirit of a people who have endured and thrived. St Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a living testament to the enduring strength of faith and community. It’s a place where the echoes of ancient traditions mingle with the hopes of a new generation.
