This sanctuary, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, stands as a testament to the visions of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French Visitandine nun. Born in 1647, young Margaret experienced a life punctuated by both spiritual devotion and personal hardship. After losing her father at a tender age, she and her mother faced challenging circumstances. Despite these trials, Margaret’s faith deepened, leading her to enter the Order of the Visitation nuns at 24. It was within the quiet walls of her convent that Margaret Mary received a series of extraordinary revelations. Jesus appeared to her, revealing his Sacred Heart as a symbol of his boundless love for humanity. He entrusted her with a mission: to spread the devotion to his Sacred Heart, urging acts of reparation for the indifference and ingratitude of the world. These visions urged the faithful to receive Holy Communion, particularly on the First Friday of each month, and to observe an hour of prayer every Thursday night in remembrance of Christ’s agony in Gethsemane.
