St Lucia is more than just a pretty view. Its history is rich and fascinating. It began as part of Indooroopilly then Toowong. Sugar plantations thrived here in the 1860s. William Alexander Wilson a native of the Caribbean island of St Lucia purchased the Coldridge Plantation in 1882. He renamed it St Lucia Sugar Plantation. The name stuck. It transferred to the housing subdivision in 1883. This is how the suburb got its name.
