St. Louis Senior High School

Welcome to St. Louis Senior High School, a place brimming with history and academic excellence. It’s a story that starts with a vision and a commitment to empowering young women in Ghana. The school was founded in 1952. It was a time when the importance of education for girls was not yet widely accepted in Ghana. But the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, motivated by their faith and a deep desire to make a difference, founded this school with just 12 girls. Despite early challenges, the school grew, its reputation becoming intertwined with excellence. Today, St Louis is a legacy of determination, dedication and scholastic achievement, a cornerstone of this community. The school’s original location was on the same compound as the ‘St Bernadette School’ – now known as ‘Roman Girls’. The Sisters however, were determined to create a new secondary school, and St Louis became the first girls’ high school in Ghana. It was in 1960 that the school moved to its present site. The foundation stone was laid by Otumfuo Osei Agyemang Prempeh II, Asantehene on the feast of Annunciation. St. Louis Senior High School stands as a testament to the power of education. Beyond the academic achievements, there’s a rich tapestry of community service woven into the fabric of St. Louis. Students have always been actively engaged in helping others. They’ve taught religion to those living in the area. The school’s commitment to the holistic development of its students is evident in its emphasis on leadership, citizenship, and community involvement. The school even included boys in the Sixth Form until the early 1980s. Many notable women have graduated from here. St. Louis Senior High School continues to be a beacon of hope for young women in Ghana.
