Founded in 1952 St Kilian’s German School stands proudly in Dublin. It began as a Sunday school. A lifeline for German children arriving in Ireland after World War II. The Save the German Children Society a Dublin charity supported them. They sought to preserve their language and culture.

St Kilian’s wasn’t just about language. It became a fully fledged school in 1954. It provided a complete education. From kindergarten to secondary school. It quickly grew popular. Over 600 students now attend St Kilian’s. Students from over 30 countries attend.

The school incorporates aspects of the Baden-Württemberg German curriculum. Students can choose a German curriculum stream from 5th class. This prepares them for German universities. They can even take the German Sprachdiplom exams.

The school shares a campus with the Lycee Francais d’Irlande. They formed the Eurocampus in 2002. They share classes in the Junior Cycle. This creates a truly international learning environment. Students from many nations and cultures learn side by side. They develop respect for different backgrounds. St Kilian’s is inclusive. It welcomes students of all abilities. It also incorporates environmental awareness through its Green School project.

Notable alumni include actor Charley Boorman. Politician Paul Murphy is another notable graduate. Even comedian Killian Sundermann attended St Kilian’s.

The school’s success is impressive. Its high rate of progression to third-level education demonstrates this. It’s part funded by the German government. This demonstrates its importance as a center of German education abroad.

St Kilian’s German School is more than a school. It’s a testament to the resilience of a community. It’s a beacon of international cooperation. A place where children thrive in a supportive multicultural environment. Its legacy continues to inspire. It preserves language and culture in the heart of Dublin.
