Founded in 1916 by the Congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph St Joseph’s University stands proudly in Brooklyn. This wasn’t just any college. It was a beacon of hope a place where women could pursue higher education. Initially named St Joseph’s College for Women it opened its doors to just twelve students. They had big dreams. They had a tiny gray building. But they had ambition.

St Joseph’s quickly expanded. Its first baccalaureate degrees were conferred in 1920. It opened one of the East Coast’s first laboratory preschools in 1934.
