St. Joseph’s High School a proud all-boys Catholic high school opened its doors in 1889. It was one of only nine Catholic high schools founded in the 1800s in Detroit. The school stood as a testament to faith and education for many years. Its blue and white colors flew high. The school’s Blue Jays team played with passion.

Imagine the electrifying atmosphere of Detroit’s Olympia Stadium in 1947. St. Joseph’s faced off against Detroit Miller High School. This marked the first City Basketball Championship game. This game was the first of its kind combining the Detroit PSL and Catholic High School League. A record-breaking 11563 people came to watch. Sadly St. Joseph’s lost 47-34. Even in defeat the school left its mark. It created a memorable moment in Detroit’s sporting history.
