“Venator Animarum” is the motto of St. Hubert Seminary Senior High. It translates to “Hunter of Souls”. Today, let’s delve into the story of this esteemed institution.

St. Hubert Seminary Senior High in Kumasi stands as a beacon of Catholic education. Its story began in 1970. Most Rev. Peter Kwasi Sarpong, the fourth Diocesan Bishop of Kumasi, established it. The seminary got its name from Most Rev. Hubert Paulissen. He was the first Kumasi Diocesan Bishop.

Bishop Sarpong acted swiftly after taking office in March 1970. By September of that year, St. Hubert Seminary opened its doors. He appointed Very Rev. Fr. Robert Mensah Abrampah as the first Rector. Abrampah had previously served as chaplain of Opoku Ware School.

Initially, St. Hubert Seminary focused on training young men for the priesthood. However, in 1995, Archbishop Sarpong expanded its mission. He responded to requests from Catholic parents. The school began admitting non-seminarians. These students were Catholics seeking quality secondary education. They were also non-residential.

This expansion proved successful. It led to a partnership with the government. In 2005, St. Hubert Seminary joined the public education system. About 50 acres of the original diocesan seminary land were allocated. This was for developing the school’s expanded vision.

Despite this partnership, St. Hubert remains the property of the Archdiocese of Kumasi. The Archdiocese manages the school. However, its facilities are open for public use.

St. Hubert Seminary Senior High aims to provide holistic Catholic education for boys. Its vision is to be a formation center of excellence. Here, young boys receive top-notch training.

The school is located in Santasi. It is very close to Opoku Ware School. St. Hubert operates from Monday to Friday. The hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. As a Category B school, it offers both day and boarding options. It is a public SHS with a Catholic denomination.

If you wish to contact St. Hubert Seminary, you can email them. The address is contact@sthubertseminaryshs.net. Or call +233 24 413 3693 or +233 32 202 2575.

From its humble beginnings as a seminary to its current status as a public SHS, St. Hubert Seminary Senior High has remained true to its mission of providing quality Catholic education. Its graduates are equipped to be true “Hunters of Souls”. They leave ready to serve the world.
