Did you ever hear about a small group of 25 people who held a church service at a sandwich shop? This very spot you are standing on is a bit of a history lesson for St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church. It all began in 1979 when the Diocese of Texas founded St. Cuthbert. They first held services at Bob and Linda’s Sandwich Shop on Highway 6. They were led by the Rev. Jeremiah Ward. The little group outgrew the sandwich shop and moved to an A-frame building in 1981. This church continued to grow. In fact, in 1992, it attained its independent parish status. They relocated again because of their continued growth. In the end, they settled here on West Road, where they built their current building. It was dedicated in 2009, and it is a true testament to the resilience and dedication of this small group of people who dared to dream of a church of their own. St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church stands today as a symbol of their perseverance standing tall on West Road in Houston.
