St Brendan’s Primary moved into its new building in August 2017. The school continues to seek opportunities. They want to work with friends in Clyde Primary and Yokerburn Early Years. Clyde Campus is a no-smoking zone. Dogs are not allowed in the school grounds either.
School hours are Monday to Friday. Soft start begins at 8.45 am. All pupils can come into school at this time. School officially starts at 9.00 am. The Breakfast Club runs from 8.00 to 8.45 am. Interval is from 10.25 to 10.40 am. Pupils should bring a healthy snack. Lunchtime is from 12.00 to 12.45 pm. School closes at 3.00 pm. There is no afternoon interval.
The school roll is 202 pupils. There are currently eight classes. These range from Primary 1 to Primary 7. Some classes are single-year groups. Others are composite classes. At present the stages are P1, P2/1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6 and P7.
Sometimes composite classes are formed. This is when children from two stages come together. Primary teachers are trained to teach differentiated ability groups. Composite classes operate like single-stage classes. Children study at their own level.
St Brendan’s Primary in Motherwell is celebrating. The school achieved the Gold Rights Respecting School Award. It also won the Gold sportscotland School Sport Award.
St Brendan’s has fully integrated the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into its ethos. The school also collaborated with Muirhouse Primary. This was on the “We Are Muirhouse” project. The initiative celebrated diversity. It built understanding across cultural differences.
St Brendan’s has received the Gold SportScotland School Sport Award. This highlights dedication to physical education. Students are very involved in sport. The school has also been progressing towards Silver Reading School status. The focus is on creating an inviting library.
