The history of St Benedict Parish is intertwined with a broader movement. It reflects a commitment to Catholic education and community building. The original Saint Benedict Center, founded in 1940, aimed to provide religious instruction to Catholic students in non-Catholic universities in the Boston area.
Catherine Goddard Clarke and her collaborators initiated this work. They recognized the need for a Catholic library and meeting place. Their efforts blossomed. The Center’s work expanded. It offered Church philosophy and Latin classes.
