Whispers carry through St. Andrew’s Church Chiangmai. They speak of a transformation. St. Andrew’s Church Chiangmai started its journey in Chiang Mai around 2006. A team led by Archdeacon Seow Chai Pin visited for a Prayer and Study Tour. Short-term mission teams followed yearly. They partnered with a local church and school. The vision grew. A dedicated team was formed to serve in Chiangmai. This included Rev Wong Chee Seong and Suhua from the Diocese of West Malaysia. Mr. Gerry and Mrs. Yahui Gan came from St John’s Chapel Singapore. Mr. Narin and Mrs. Nijjarin Suranaawarat represented Thailand. Several churches supported the ministry. These included the Church of the Good Shepherd, Church of Ascension, St Andrew’s Cathedral (Mandarin), and St John’s-St Margaret’s (Mandarin). The building that houses St. Andrew’s Church Chiangmai was once undesirable. Locals considered it dangerous. Parents warned their children to stay away. But the church transformed the space. St. Andrew’s Centre became a beacon of light in the Nong Pa Krang district. It now brings light, life, and laughter to the community.
