St Andrew’s Academy’s importance grew significantly in 2001. This happened when St Mirin’s and St Margaret’s High School closed. The academy stepped up to fill the educational void becoming a central point for Catholic secondary education in the area. New buildings were completed in 2006 marking a new chapter for the school.
The academy has eight feeder primary schools. These are St Catherine’s Primary, St Charles’ Primary, St Fergus’ Primary, St James’s Primary, St John Ogilvie Primary, St Mary’s Primary, St Paul’s Primary, and St Peter’s Primary. These schools create a strong educational foundation for students entering St Andrew’s Academy. The link with these primary schools ensures a smooth transition for students.
By 2008 the school roll was 1145. This number had risen to its full capacity of 1260 by 2017. The increased demand led to challenges. Local children not in the associated primaries faced a ballot for admission. Some were denied a place even when their older siblings were already pupils.
St Andrew’s Academy has notable alumni. Gillian Lindsay a rower honed her skills and determination here. Paolo Nutini the acclaimed singer began his educational journey within these walls. Angela Taylor an ice hockey player also walked these halls.
