The foundation stone was laid in 1962. The first Maha Kumbabishegam a grand consecration ceremony took place in 1964. This marked the temple’s official opening.

Over the years the temple has undergone several expansions. It started as a single-storey structure. Soon it expanded with temporary iron-angle extensions. A second Maha Kumbabishegam celebrated in 1972 signified further growth. New quarters for the priest were added in 1982. A multi-purpose hall a two-storey building opened in 1986. It provided space for cultural and social activities.

The temple’s journey wasn’t always smooth. Construction of a completely new temple began in 1990. There were challenges. Differences of opinion technical problems temporarily halted progress. The project resumed in 1992. The old temple was dismantled. The new temple with its majestic Rajagopuram a towering gateway and twin bell towers was completed in 1994. A third Maha Kumbabishegam followed.

In 2007 the fourth Maha Kumbabishegam took place. This regular renovation is an important aspect of temple maintenance based on Agamic principles. The temple was repaired. It was refurbished. The Marathadi Pillaiyar and Sri Durgai Amman shrines were relocated and restructured. This ensures the temple continues to serve the community for generations to come.
