Did you know that Sri Pentas, once the vibrant hub of Media Prima’s broadcasting empire, is now a whisper of its former self? Sri Pentas, located in Bandar Utama, housed the production facilities for television, digital content, and broadcasting for Malaysia’s largest media and entertainment conglomerate. Media Prima, the company behind Sri Pentas, first leased the space in the 1990s, during the early days of TV3 in 1995. Over the years, it significantly expanded its operations at Sri Pentas. The complex became synonymous with Malaysian media, a place where news was made and entertainment was born. But times change, and so does the media landscape. Media Prima faced increasing financial challenges, leading to a series of cost-cutting measures. In 2018, the company sold several properties, including the land where its printing factory was located, and began exploring options for relocating from Sri Pentas. One potential new home was considered at Saujana Resort in Shah Alam. Despite Media Prima’s continuous review of operational costs and exploration of alternative locations, Sri Pentas remained its operational base for a while longer. However, the writing was on the wall. The final curtain call for Sri Pentas came in late 2024. Media Prima transitioned its news operations to Balai Berita in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, bringing an end to an era. The move to Bangsar marked a new chapter for Media Prima, consolidating its operations and embracing a more digitally focused future. While Sri Pentas may be quiet now, its legacy as a cornerstone of Malaysian media remains. It served as a backdrop to countless broadcasts, a training ground for media professionals, and a symbol of Media Prima’s rise to prominence. Though its lights are dimmed, the stories and memories forged within Sri Pentas’s walls continue to resonate in the Malaysian media landscape.
