Once known as the Palais des Congrès, stands the Square Brussels Convention Centre. It is more than just a venue. It is a landmark in Brussels.

Built for the 1958 World Expo, the Square Brussels Convention Centre has a rich history. Imagine world leaders, scientists, and artists gathering here to share knowledge. The Square Brussels Convention Centre played a key role in Belgium’s economic growth.

But time took its toll. By the early 2000s, the Palais des Congrès was aging. Financial problems arose and asbestos was discovered. The building closed in 2003 for extensive renovations.

In 2005, GL events group took over the center’s management. For two and a half years, the Palais underwent a complete makeover. Finally, on September 20, 2009, the Square Brussels Convention Centre reopened.

The architectural firm A.2.R.C. designed the renovated Square Brussels Convention Centre. Its most striking feature is a three-story glass cube at the entrance. The cube’s design emphasizes transparency and light. A terrace offers access from Mont des Arts.

Inside, you will find three auditoriums and 27 meeting rooms. These spaces can accommodate up to 1,200 people. There is also a 4,000 square meter exhibition zone.

The Square Brussels Convention Centre also showcases art. Murals by famous Belgian artists decorate the foyers. Admire works by Paul Delvaux, René Magritte, and Louis Van Lint. These classic pieces blend with contemporary designs.

The Square Brussels Convention Centre has received accolades for its design. In 2010, it won the Special Jury Award at MIPIM.

In 2018, Square Brussels Convention Centre celebrated its 60th anniversary. The event highlighted its importance to Brussels. It also marked a renewed focus on international appeal. The GL events group aimed to attract the Chinese market.

Ariane Deguelle, CEO of GL events Belgium, sees a bright future. She believes the Square Brussels Convention Centre will boost Brussels’ economy. It will also help the city maintain its status as a top conference destination.

So, as you stand here, remember the Square Brussels Convention Centre’s journey. From the 1958 World Expo to today, it remains a vital part of Brussels. It is a place where history, art, and innovation meet.
