Did you know the County of San Diego is building a new library in Casa de Oro? It will be located near Spring Valley Academy. The current Spring Valley facility is in a leased location. It offers 6000 square feet. The new library will double in size. It will offer 12000 square feet. The new building will also feature a community room. It will be approximately 2000 square feet.
In 2022 almost 30000 customers visited the Spring Valley Branch San Diego County Library. They checked out over 63250 items. The new library branch will offer many features. These include public computers. It also includes laptops for checkout. High-speed internet access and Wi-Fi will be available. The community room will allow after-hours access for community events. A teen area with study rooms is planned. A children’s area with early literacy play equipment will be available. There will be patio space. A Friends of the Library Bookstore is planned. A designated parking lot will be available.
The new library is being built on Zero Net Energy and LEED Gold standards. Solar panels will produce the electricity it needs to operate. The County gathered community input. Residents, businesses and other stakeholders shared their needs for the library. This feedback helped shape the design. It also helped determine the types of features planned. County staff will continue to engage with the community. They will discuss future design concepts as the project moves forward. Revisions will be made as needed.
The project supports the library’s mission. That mission is to celebrate our communities. It helps you create your own story. The project is funded by the County of San Diego. Construction will begin in winter 2025. The branch is set to open in spring 2026.
