Did you know Spring Creek United Methodist Church started in a Knights of Columbus Hall? Yes a hall with a bar a margarita machine and a picture of the Pope. Spring Creek United Methodist Church wasn’t always the beautiful campus you see today. It began in 1998 serving the area between San Antonio and Boerne. The church aimed to welcome those seeking a return to faith or those new to church life. Its initial structure focused on small groups fostering study service and fellowship.
For three years this vibrant community gathered in the unexpected setting of the Knights of Columbus Hall. Imagine the contrast the sacred gatherings alongside a margarita machine. This unique beginning shaped the church’s inclusive and welcoming spirit. This unconventional start built a strong foundation.
After finding their 30-acre land on Old Fredericksburg Road they faced a surprising decision. Before building their own facilities they chose to raise money for a Habitat for Humanity home. This act reflects Spring Creek’s commitment to serving the community beyond its own walls. It’s a testament to their values from the very beginning.
Growth brought challenges and changes. The church adapted expanding its services to meet the needs of its expanding congregation. A second Sunday service was added. Youth and children’s ministries flourished. Small groups were revitalized. Their mission expanded locally nationally and globally.
Further expansion plans were made around 2015. But again Spring Creek chose community over convenience. They built a second Habitat home and sponsored two Joshua Builds. They then built an industrial kitchen and a Fellowship building. They also expanded their sanctuary.
Even the COVID-19 pandemic couldn’t stop their service. They provided online worship children’s and youth activities and small group studies. Spring Creek CARES assisted families struggling during the pandemic. Today Spring Creek United Methodist Church stands as a testament to its enduring faith unwavering commitment to community and its unique beginnings. It’s a church that has continuously grown in faith and served God in countless ways. It’s a church that embraces its past while striving for a brighter future.
