In 1974, a vibrant community known as Spirit of Christ Catholic Church began its journey in Arvada, Colorado. Initially, a small group of 200 households, they dreamt of a place where faith and community intertwined. Today, standing before Spirit of Christ Catholic Church, we witness the blossoming of that dream. The church, part of the Denver Diocese, has grown to embrace 3,400 households. Spirit of Christ Catholic Church isn’t just a building. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of its people. It embodies their dedication to stewardship, a core principle since its inception. Spirit of Christ Catholic Church tithes 15 percent of its offertory to mission and outreach. This commitment reflects their deep-rooted belief in giving back. It also avoids the need for additional fundraising. Another cornerstone of Spirit of Christ Catholic Church is its Small Church Communities (SCCs). These intimate groups, now numbering 80, provide a space for approximately 800 people to connect, share, and grow in their faith. The church building itself reflects the growth of the community. From its humble beginnings in a multi-purpose space with chairs, Spirit of Christ Catholic Church has expanded significantly. The current sanctuary, an arched, Italianate structure seating 1,200, stands as a symbol of the community’s flourishing. The prayer garden and separate daily chapel offer tranquil spaces for reflection. Spirit of Christ Catholic Church has always been forward-thinking. Screens were incorporated into the sanctuaries from the very first building in 1974. This innovative approach ensured that all could participate fully in the liturgical celebrations. The heart of Spirit of Christ Catholic Church lies in its parishioners. Their diverse talents and unwavering dedication have given life to a multitude of ministries. From nurturing the vibrant flower beds to serving at the local soup kitchen, their contributions enrich the community. Their outreach extends far beyond Arvada, with projects ranging from building homes in Juarez, Mexico, to constructing libraries and clean water stations in Kenya. The spirit of giving shines brightly at Spirit of Christ Catholic Church, especially during the Christmas season. The “reverse collection” is a cherished tradition. Parishioners take slips from the offertory basket with the names and Christmas wishes of those served by the outreach facilities. Thousands of gifts return to the parish center. Then representatives distribute them to those in need. This massive effort embodies the community’s shared commitment to spreading joy and embodying the spirit of Christmas.
