This location is steeped in history, within the archaeological site of a Saxon Wallburg. The Spielbank Hohensyburg wasn’t just about games of chance. It quickly became a cultural hub. Another large-scale renovation took place in 2012, modernizing the facilities while keeping its unique charm. The Spielbank Hohensyburg wasn’t always under private ownership. Originally owned by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, it was part of a group of four casinos. In 2021, the state sold all four casinos, including the Spielbank Hohensyburg, to the Gauselmann Group. This sale marked a turning point. It also led to the casino’s renaming as the Merkur Spielbank Hohensyburg. Today, the Spielbank Hohensyburg continues to draw visitors.
