But let me tell you the story of St. Philip Church Of God In Christ which currently holds its Sunday Service right here.
St. Philip Church Of God In Christ has a rich history. It began in 1946. The founder was the late Pastor Henry M. Evans. It quickly became known as a “powerhouse”. This was because of its work spreading the gospel of Christ’s healing power.
Superintendent Evans chose Pastor Lynch as his successor. Elder William Lynch took the helm. He led the church faithfully for decades. He was known for his ability to recite scriptures. Before his death he passed the leadership to his son Pastor Martaz Lynch in March 2021.
Just months later a devastating fire struck. It displaced the congregation. But they are physically and spiritually rebuilding. Now they gather here at Spain Street Church of God in Christ for Sunday service.
St. Philip Church of God in Christ has clear aims. They want to lead people to God. They help believers mature in faith. They also selflessly serve their community. They want people to experience wholeness. They want them to walk in purpose. They want them to dwell in the grace of Jesus through the Holy Spirit.
Their beliefs are rooted in the Bible. They emphasize holiness and righteous living. They seek freedom through the Holy Spirit’s anointing. They believe in healing for the whole person. This includes spirit soul and body. They also value the fruit of the Spirit. This includes love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self-control.
Besides the Sunday service at 9:30 am St. Philip Church of God in Christ offers much more. There is a Sunday School class for adults. It focuses on spiritual growth. A Bible study ministry exists. It helps people grow deeper in God’s word. The Young People Willing Workers is a youth ministry. It includes Bible study and leadership training. It offers community service opportunities. Church prayer services involve worship through song. They involve meditating on Scripture. They also include prayer for various needs.
St. Philip Church is growing. They have purchased a new worship space. They are calling it their own. The community secured a property for the church. They await Dedication Sunday. The St. Philip family will celebrate this milestone.
They feel called to create “a house of prayer for all people”. They believe their new chapel will be home to life change. They invite you to join them in prayer.
