Did you know that Southwest High School, right here in San Antonio, is known for its amazing achievements? It’s one of the largest high schools in the city with over two thousand students. It was established in 1951, and its reputation for academic excellence has only grown since then. When Southwest High School opened, it was a small rural high school with a graduating class of only eleven students. Today, it’s a major 6A high school, home to a vibrant student body. You can see that its motto is “We are Southwest,” and they hold onto these words with pride. They have a wide variety of clubs and organizations with something for everyone, including academics, athletics, and even a robotics program. Among its many achievements, it’s notable for being a 6A school in the UIL (University Interscholastic League), which means that it’s one of the largest and most competitive schools in Texas. The Southwest Dragons have a strong presence in the community. They are proud of their winning teams, especially their football, baseball, soccer, and volleyball teams. But it’s not just about athletics; they also have a rigorous academic program that prepares its students for the future. Southwest High School puts a special emphasis on a “complete academic program,” including 18 dual-credit courses, given in association with Palo Alto College, as well as Advanced Placement classes in Science and English. Their students are prepared for college success, and many go on to great things.
