Southwest Campus Apartments isn’t your typical dorm. It features three mid-rise buildings. These buildings boast 358 apartments. They house over 2600 students. The apartments offer a mix of two- and four-bedroom suites. This gives students flexibility and different living arrangements.
The design is inspired by the Mission Revival style. This architectural style is prevalent in Los Angeles’ Westwood and Brentwood areas. The buildings are organized around courtyards. They feature lush landscaping and grand arcades. The result is an inviting and community-focused atmosphere.
At the heart of Southwest Campus Apartments is Warren Plaza. This is a series of interlinking courtyards. It includes a massive 7500 square foot multipurpose room. This room has a demonstration kitchen. It serves as a central hub for student gatherings. Students can study socialize or even meet potential employers there.
The project replaced several outdated buildings. Now it seamlessly connects to existing student housing to the south. This improves access to the main campus for the residents. The flexibility of the apartments is key. The furniture can be easily changed. This allows the university to adapt to fluctuating student enrollment needs.
Constructing Southwest Campus Apartments wasn’t easy. The site was relatively small. The buildings are quite tall. PCL Construction used drones and 360-degree cameras to monitor progress. They also used advanced subsurface imaging. This helped them locate underground utilities and avoid any problems. They even hired a dedicated flagger team. This ensured the safe and efficient management of deliveries.
