He made sure to include those features in the plans for this new community. Southside Place officially opened on Easter Day of that year. The first residents were charmed by the bungalow homes and the promise of a close-knit community.
Southside Place’s early success was evident in its rapid incorporation. By June 1931, just six years after its founding, the town boasted 600 residents and held its first city council meeting. This quick growth solidified its presence amidst the larger landscape of Harris County. The town remained relatively stable throughout the mid-20th century, even as the world around it changed dramatically.
Today, Southside Place retains its unique charm. It functions as a haven for upper-middle and upper-class families seeking a close-knit community atmosphere. Despite its small size, Southside Place boasts amenities that many towns envy. The community takes pride in its own police and fire departments. It even has a city newsletter, “Southside Place Today,” keeping residents connected. And if you ever need to mail a letter, remember to address it to “Houston,” as the postal service doesn’t recognize “Southside Place, TX.”
