Originally, there were two high schools in the Southfield Public Schools district. These were Southfield High and Southfield-Lathrup. In 2016, they merged. The district decided to consolidate them due to declining enrollment, rising expenses, and shrinking revenue. This reconfiguration was a major initiative.
