Have you ever heard the story of a church built on the strength of eight members? Welcome to South Union Missionary Baptist Church, a historic landmark on Lydia Street in Houston. The church’s humble beginnings in 1948 started in the home of Brother Charlie Linville and his wife with a small group of committed individuals. They held their first worship service in a small office on the corner of Tierwester and Lydia. The church’s first temple was built in 1948 on two lots purchased on Lydia Street. The South Union Missionary Baptist Church has grown a lot since its beginnings but remains dedicated to its mission of bringing people together, strengthening the community, and uniting hearts in faith.
