Wasn’t it amazing how a small mission church could grow into something so significant? Welcome to South Post Oak Baptist Church. Or rather welcome to what was once South Post Oak Baptist Church. Today we stand before The Fountain of Praise a testament to faith and growth.

In 1959 a small group of devoted individuals established South Post Oak Baptist Church. Their dream was simple to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Their commitment was remarkable. They built the church’s first buildings in less than five years. A testament to their faith and tireless work.

The 1970s and 80s brought challenges. The surrounding community changed becoming more diverse. The church membership shifted. Adapting proved difficult. Numbers dwindled. Yet God sustained the church. He prepared leaders for a new era a new harvest.

In 1991 Dr Remus E Wright became the church’s seventh pastor. His leadership ignited a remarkable transformation. Membership exploded from 150 to over 24700 by 2016. The Fountain of Praise became one of the 100 fastest growing churches in the United States. Over 100 ministries and programs blossomed serving both the congregation and the wider community. Dr Wright’s vision of restoration was undeniably powerful.

In 1998 the church purchased 19 acres on Hillcroft Avenue. This land laid the foundation for the next chapter. The name changed reflecting a renewed spiritual energy. South Post Oak Baptist Church became The Fountain of Praise. A magnificent new sanctuary was built dedicated in 2002. The new sanctuary brought a huge influx of new members.

A further expansion followed in 2007. The church purchased the Mainhill Center renaming it the FountainLife Center. This added facility provided vital community resources. Areas covered included healthcare education law finance and economic development. The Legacy 20/20 campaign secured funding for all these ambitious projects.

Today The Fountain of Praise stands tall. It’s a vibrant community. It’s a symbol of unwavering faith. It’s a story of growth. A story of adaptation. It’s a testament to the enduring power of God’s grace. It’s a place where a small seed planted decades ago blossomed into something magnificent.
