Picture South Pasadena a city nestled in the San Gabriel Valley. Its history stretches back to the Tongva people the Hahamog-na tribe who called this area Akuvranga. They built dome-shaped lodges along the Arroyo Seco. Their diet consisted of acorns seeds herbs fish and venison. They even traded daily with coastal Tongva for ocean fish.

South Pasadena’s location near a natural fording place on the Arroyo Seco was crucial. It served as a vital trade route for these indigenous peoples.
