South East High School stands proudly in South Gate California. It is more than just a school. It is a gateway to education. Completed in 2005 the high school occupies 57.45 acres. This makes it one of the largest campuses in the LAUSD.
Before opening South East High School was known as Southeast Area New High School #2. The school was built to ease crowding at nearby schools. These included South Gate High School and Huntington Park High School. David Starr Jordan High School also benefited.
South East High School was the first public high school in South Gate in 73 years. The campus includes many facilities. There is a student store and a health office. Food service and a cafeteria are available. An auditorium and gymnasium are present. A swimming pool and sports fields are included. Administration offices complete the picture. Highlights include a parent center tennis courts and a spacious theater-style auditorium.
Sean Kingston’s firm designed South East High School. Steve Fierce led the design. The state-of-the-art facility covers 223000 square feet. It accommodates 2500 students. The campus features six buildings. These include a sports facility with a stadium and gymnasium. There is a band and choral wing with an outdoor amphitheater. An 800-seat theater-style auditorium a library classrooms and labs are also available.
South East High School’s mascot is the Jaguar. Its colors are silver and midnight blue. The school offers a wide range of sports. These include baseball basketball cross country and football. There is also soccer softball swimming tennis track and field and volleyball.
The performing arts are also a key part of South East High School. Students can participate in concert band intermediate band marching band and drumline. Mariachi color guard dance and cheerleading are also options.
South East High School operates on a traditional schedule. Students have a summer break. They also have winter Thanksgiving and spring breaks. The school uses a semester calendar with quarterly progress points. The school day is divided into six periods.
