Others are endangered, like the California gnatcatcher, least Bell’s vireo, arroyo southwestern toad, Stephens’ kangaroo rat, San Diego fairy shrimp, Quino checkerspot butterfly, San Diego thornmint, and Dehesa beargrass. The Nature Conservancy has been instrumental in protecting 35,000 acres within this vital area. They work with partners to protect habitats and clean water sources.
