In the heart of Long Beach, South Bay Abundant Life Church stands as a testament to faith and community. South Bay Abundant Life Church’s journey began in the spring of 2003. Pastor Leslie Carl Smith envisioned a church dedicated to making disciples for Jesus Christ. Initially, the congregation gathered in the homes of its members, creating a close-knit atmosphere. This early period fostered a strong sense of belonging and shared purpose.
In August 2003, South Bay Abundant Life Church found a temporary home at Immanuel Baptist Church in Carson. This marked a significant step for the growing congregation. The church continued to flourish under Pastor Smith’s leadership. He emphasized teaching the word of God and sharing the gospel. He envisioned a church where lives were transformed, regardless of past or present circumstances.
South Bay Abundant Life Church relocated to its current location at 2679 East Carson Street in Long Beach in November 2004. This building, also home to Ebenezer Baptist Church, became the church’s permanent sanctuary. It offered a place for the community to worship and connect. Sadly, Pastor Smith passed away in 2007. His legacy of dedication and spiritual guidance continued to inspire the congregation.
South Bay Abundant Life Church faced a period of transition. Pastor Barry Hughey served as Interim Pastor in 2008. Then, Pastor Steven Robinson led the church until 2012. In 2013, Pastor Jerome Vincent Carter became the Senior Pastor. He ushered in a new chapter in South Bay Abundant Life Church’s history. The church’s commitment to discipleship and community remains strong. South Bay Abundant Life Church continues to serve as a beacon of faith in Long Beach. It’s a testament to the enduring power of belief and the importance of community.
