Opened in 2015 the Sorenson High Performance Center is a two-story marvel nestled northwest of the Jon M Huntsman Center. It’s more than just a gym. It’s a holistic center designed to maximize athletic potential. It’s a place where every aspect of athletic performance is addressed. From nutrition and strength training to sports medicine and even sports psychology.
Imagine a place where athletes can recover and prepare all under one roof. The ground floor houses a massive 9500-square-foot sports medicine facility and a fueling station. The fueling station is key. It provides athletes with the vital carbs and proteins they need within that crucial 30-minute post-workout window.
Upstairs the action intensifies. The second floor is dedicated to strength and conditioning. This isn’t your average weight room. There are 12 state-of-the-art workout stations. Athletes can recover quickly because of improved rest intervals between exercises. There’s even a 35-yard artificial turf running track. This protects athletes’ bodies from the wear and tear of running on hard surfaces.
But the Sorenson High Performance Center isn’t just about brute strength. It’s about precision and recovery too. The sports medicine area boasts 18 treatment tables a hydrotherapy area with a unique plunge pool. This pool is shaped like a block U. One side has cold water the other hot. It even has a Hydroworks 2000 underwater treadmill complete with cameras. Athletes can monitor their underwater progress. This advanced technology allows for thorough rehabilitation. It also includes Alter-G treadmills that use air pressure to reduce body weight. This lets athletes begin conditioning sooner after an injury.
Connecting the Sorenson High Performance Center to other facilities is a refurbished tunnel system. This maximizes efficiency. Athletes seamlessly move between the HPER complex the Huntsman Center and the Huntsman Basketball Facility. The Sorenson High Performance Center isn’t just a building.
