Did you know that Solid Rock Ministries started in an unusual location? Back in 2000, the very first service wasn’t in a church building at all. It was held at San Diego State University.

Solid Rock Ministries has a fascinating history. From humble beginnings, it has grown into a megachurch with multiple campuses. We are standing in front of one of them.

Let’s delve into the story of Solid Rock Ministries. Pastor Miles McPherson founded the church in 2000. He is a former NFL player. Imagine a football player turned pastor.

The church quickly expanded. In 2002, Rock Academy opened. Then, in 2005, construction began on this very building at Liberty Station. Two years later, the new campus opened its doors. Solid Rock Ministries continued to grow adding campuses in North County, East County, San Ysidro and City Heights. There is even a campus in Oahu, Hawaii.

This Point Loma campus is huge. It measures 244000 square feet. Some have compared its size to Noah’s Ark. It features state-of-the-art Christian education facilities. The worship center seats 3500 people. The sanctuary is so large that it is used for high-profile funerals.

The Rock Academy is right next door. It serves students from preschool through 12th grade. The building has an interesting past. It was originally built for the Navy in 1969. It was a training building with 170 classrooms.

Solid Rock Ministries emphasizes community service. Pastor McPherson encourages everyone to serve. The church offers over 150 external ministries. Members serve in prisons, homeless shelters, and even strip clubs. They also assist military families.

In 2015, the church donated over 220000 hours of service to San Diego. This was valued at an estimated $4 million. Volunteers tackle beautification projects. They have cleaned up the Jackie Robinson YMCA and the Barrio Logan neighborhood. The church also hosts the annual Toys for Joy event.

The Rock Church is more than just a place of worship. It’s a hub of activity. It is a place where people come together to make a difference.

In its first ten years Solid Rock Ministries grew rapidly. The church expanded from its initial gathering to a church of 13000. It moved into this 216000 square foot building. Also it started more than 90 ministries.

Solid Rock Ministries invites everyone to participate. It is a diverse community that loves Jesus. The church actively engages with each other and the community. They use their gifts to minister to others. Remember, Jesus is the hope they long for, no matter where one finds themselves.
