Isn’t it amazing how science and leisure can meet? Right here atop this building is Solaris Lab. It gives you a unique view of St. Petersburg. Solaris Lab offers a special perspective of the cityscape. It has a glass dome and an open terrace.

Visitors come here for the stunning panoramic views. They enjoy seeing the city from an unusual angle. You can enjoy tea, cakes, and coffee. All of this while taking in the beautiful scenery.

Some people mention mosquitoes in summer. Some say the coffee is average. But many find Solaris Lab worth visiting. They come for the adventure and the stunning views. You can see the Finnish Bay Area at sunset. The industrial port buildings are visible from the red-brick terrace.

The Spin Optics Laboratory is part of St. Petersburg State University. It’s funded by a Megagrant from the Russian Federation. The lab studies spin currents induced by light. These currents are in semiconductor structures.

They work with exciton-polaritons. These are mixed light-matter quasi-particles. They follow bosonic statistics. They can form condensates and coherent fluids. Polariton spin currents could form new logic devices. Information would be encoded by spin or polarization. The lab aims to control polariton spins very quickly. This could allow information encoding at terahertz frequencies.

The experimental facilities include time and space-resolved spectroscopy. They use Faraday and Kerr rotation. There is also angular resolved photoluminescence. Reflectivity and Raman spectroscopy are used here. Time-resolved magneto-photoluminescence is available.

The Spin Optics laboratory works with world-leading research centers. These include the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute in Russia. They also collaborate with Southampton University in the UK. The Universities of Dortmund, Crete and Montpellier are partners.

Solaris Lab may be hard to find. But it is worth the effort. Enjoy the view, the tea, and the unique atmosphere. Keep in mind that Solaris Lab may now be Wine in the Sky. The view is still good. So enjoy this rooftop experience in St. Petersburg.
