Initially named after Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey. A generous donation from Mr Vitthaldas Thackersey made this possible. He gave 1.5 million rupees in his mother’s memory. Though the full amount wasn’t ever paid the university thrived. It started small with only five women students. Today it boasts over 70000 students. It’s a remarkable transformation.

SNDT Women’s University has grown enormously. It now has three campuses. One here in Churchgate. Another in Santacruz-Juhu. A third is in Pune. It also has affiliated colleges. They are spread across many states in India. From Maharashtra to Assam to Uttar Pradesh. The reach is impressive.
